Three Crafts for Kids 8 to 13 – Valentine’s Craft for Older Kids – LauriePOP

today I'm going to show you three crafts for older kids using yarn i don't want to put any pressure on you that says you have to be the best room mom and have the best craft in your kids classes at school you don't have to be the room mom for every one of your kids in school you don't have to love homeschooling every single moment of every day if you are working outside of the home that is enough you are going to be present wherever you are in this season of life if you're working outside of the home be present while you're there and be present when your home you don't have to be a volunteer of the Year be present with your kids be present with your husband be present when you're cleaning your house or having your house clean these are three graphs for older kids that use yarn and you are treating these kids by coming up with these crafts alright this first one is super cute it is a little love bug and i'm using a template that's in the shape of a heart and our bug is going to be in the shape of a heart his eyes are going to be in the shape of a heart so let's get started with this for this little lovebug you're going to use 70 feet of yarn per child or you're just going to wrap the yarn around a two-liter bottle 80 times and that'll be enough yarn for each job once you wrap the yarn around your two-liter bottle about five times you can let go because that little piece will not get loose them from then on and once you're done with all 80 times around the model just slip it off and you're going to tie it and I would tie it just tie it in a double knot so that it is secure in the middle and then you're going to cut off each little loop you're going to just cut it and just take sometimes they do need good scissors i would think they just cut off each in so that every end scraggly and just cut off the long pieces here you're gonna use the shape of a heart and i will show you this size below so now it looks like two pigtails and you're just going to make it down and this is going to be the top of your heart where it dips in right here so you just kind of hold it and you start cutting off the long pieces what can you use your cut out heart to be kind of like a shape kind of like a guide you are not going to cut it as small as the heart so and i have a free printable if you click show more it'll print this side out if you're going to use more yarn than me you will need to make a bigger template of a heart but just click show more and you can get the free printable down below what you are going to do is you're using the heart shape because that gives him his little nick or hunched shoulders at the top kind of like we're a heart would be and then it's just going to be scraggly down here and he's going to look to look like the cutest little lovebug you've ever seen and that way you don't have to use just read you can use any color yarn you want now on the free printable oh I have these heart as and you can cut them out and the thing that makes monsters look so cute is when the eye pupil is almost as big as a ball so that's why they're about the same size is need to so cute and look you don't have to cut the eyes smoothly ok if it's messy for this next craft this is a little more intense it took me about 20 minutes to make your going to need three straws per person and each skein of yarn is going to fill the need for like 25 kids you can have enough yarn if you just use one skein of yarn and I was in charge i just took this picture for y'all because Deborah Norville who used to be on like entertainment tonight or one of those shows she makes her own yarn now she is the face behind this brand of yarn but i have several links below if you want to just order those now you don't have to you a certain color you can use a mix of color or you can just use whatever is cheapest it's a solid color when you get done with the pin is going to have this this 3-D look to it so if it's one solid color it's totally ok you want to cut each straw about five inches long and you need three of those then you're going to cut the yarn at 12 inches and that will be enough to stick through for what we need you're going to start with your 12 inch piece of yarn and you're going to put it down in the hole hole of the straw and believe it or not gravity will make it work very easily for you and it'll just coming out and you want to hangout equidistant on the side of each straw and you'll do that to all three straws any kind not at the top of all three of them so first you're going to take a big piece of cake and pay all three of them together at the top you're not so that it will be easier to work with take the rest of your yarn and you're going to tie a little knot at the end of one of him at the very top either the left or the right you're going to tie a little knot and it's just going to give you a starting place and that was the part that hangs out you can cut it down and then we'll just cover it up as we go you're just going to go over and under over-and-under so over the first one under the middle one over the top one now go under over/under screwed everything up it's weird that first time you know what we're going to do with this knot is it will be underneath our bracelet so you won't see it and now we're over here so we start over under over and you scrunch it up and now you're over the top and they're over and under over under over see how it's looking like it's going over now you're going to go under that blue one over the middle one under the last one on the right ok so when you get to the bottom and you have about a thumbprint or an inch left you see that I'm finished by going over this left one so this left one is what I'm going to tie a knot around so I'm going to hold it up and make a little loop so that i can tie a knot in it and see how long my cord still is you have a good foot left i'm going to take off some right now I can make that knot a lot easier that is wrapped around the left the left straw and make it and tighten up you may need lots of parent volunteers ok so we've got that knot now we're going to take off the tape and move all these yarns up to the top of the straws ok now we're going to put push and pull all these yarn pieces to the top of the straws and we're going to try and pull the straws off the bottom ready and I just twist each straw this is such a good project to do if you have lots and lots of parents to help you can do so much with parents help came here when I peach i loved it when I figured out how to use my parents that were in the classroom ok now let's scooch them down just a little bit so you can see we've got a tie-in right here and we want to tie it to this end but we want to make it kind of even so let's move the section down now we're going to tie this end ok and now we would tie this on their backpack or we would tie this on to their wrists and it's now a multicolored bracelet by the way my lauriePOP channel is a youtube channel and it's LauriePOP ideas that pop and I make youtube videos about beauty and fashion ideas that pop into my head travel ideas that pop into my head and home ideas that pop into my head so come visit my channel anytime if you click on the show more button you can see other videos that have made or just click on the name Laurie pop and it will take you to my actual channel and you can just surf around and see what kind of videos of I've made ok so with your little pn the cute little pin you're going to take the top off but you're going to remind them to leave a little space at the top for their lid come back on if they absolutely have to put the lid back on i recommend just having this is acute decorated pin and not putting the lid on so you're just going to tie a little knot at the top of your pins so you have that extra hanging out and you want to hold it down with your thumb and i recommend starting with your bunch of eight feet on the right side and you're just going to toss it over making a little you see this little you and then under here you're going to grab your eight feet and pull it through and then scrunch the little thread up there then you're going to wrap it over again and your loop over here you can be a big loose if you want it to be I need to scrunch it up and you loop it over and you reach through grab that ball of yarn throw it over one of the best things about being a teacher is having a great room mom three models are so invaluable when I stopped teaching as a remote for one year and I would never do it ever ever again it's a lot of work and the best hardest part is finding volunteers alright so you can see i use this yarn that's different colored i love it it's going to have a little design by the time I'm finished with it so you're just going to do this all the way to the bottom so when you get through you're just going to cut and you're going to leave a good six inches off of the rest of your yarn and I like the big chunk up here and in case they do want to keep up with their lid and what you're going to do with the end is you're going to string a bead on the link below some be on amazon since up for some of your getting all your craft items that you want that circle to come as low to the beach as you can get it i'm just going to tie it a couple of times and then you're going to tie a knot around the pen however is easiest for you i just go around loop it under like that and then I just tie it I'm trying to do these so you can see it tied a few times and bringing this really low if you don't bring it low it's okay thats hanging off but it's just super super tricky and that's why you we like 10 inches off or the six inches off you can do it depending on the size of your fingers i cut off as close to the piece of that little not that are can and I'm going to dab it the word of 2016 dab your polish on just that little lot just to make it secure and well now you have the cutest little craft for older kids i love this little design right here we follow this process and so it made the design for us we didn't have to do anything special and loved it thanks select for popping over through this yarn crafts for older kids let me know if it works it's too easy it's too old for this too intense for them let you know if I do something wrong i would love to chat with you and remember to weave positive encouragement lifting each other up without a lot of pressure we need to do that for each other as women have a great day and a happy Valentine's Day.
