Hi it's will from stormthecastle.
Com And here on youtube you know me as epic fantasy And this is my latest tutorial This is heh heh heh heh heh this is you couldguess A helmet that's right This is the dragonage inquisition helmet I believe the helmet's called the flames ofthe inquisition [taps helmet] Fun project of course i give you the templateand it's no paper mache It's all masking tape and cereal box cardboard So it makes it a little less messy Fun project fun helmet Thanks for watching my videos If you're a subscriber thanks for subscribing If not hit that button I always have lots of fun and interestingtutorials And hey listen if you do facebook make sureyou check out stormthecastle.
Com on facebook You can stay updated on projects I have comingup thankyou Dioramas origami catapults and trebuchets Telescopes terrariums bonsai trees and papergames Swords and shields and real blacksmithingmodel rockets animation I teach the art of real creation Storm the castle dot com lets make something Alright let's get started We are going to use corrugated cardboard hereto get our basic structure Cut yourself a couple of long pieces thatare two inches wide And make sure the corrugations go the shortdistance The two inch distance from side to side Don't make the corrugations the long way Because it's easier to bend it this way And then tape them together like this so theyform like an X near the bottom near the end like that That is going to go on your forehead And then cut them like this so you have anice little V See that? Now you are going to form this into a loopcircle That's big enough to fit on your head And give yourself an inch or two of room soit's comfortable on your head So you don't have to squeeze it on So find the right size And then tape that together Now cut yourself a couple of long strips ofone inch cardboard One inch wide Were gonna start to make the shape of thishelmet and you'll see what i mean We can soften it up a little bit so it willform well And as we did before make the corrugationsgo from side to side You can see the corrugations? So take one and tape it here And you can staple this too but if you stapleit Make sure you cover that staple with tapeor duct tape So it doesn't scratch your head at any pointyou can't scratch yourself Form it in a loop that fits on your head comfortably Like this and trim it See so that's from the front to the back With the V being right on the front on yourforehead And then put another one across that one fromside to side Kind of from ear to ear See so now you've got like a little bowl shapesee that? That's the basic shape of your helmet Now distort it a little bit by pressing onit and shaping it So see how the front on the left there isa little bit lower? So it kind of slopes a little towards theback See that slope? A little bit more on the back like that gota good look That's gonna give you a nice helmet look So now were gonna fill out this helmet And one of the nice things about this project Is we experimented not using any paper mache We wanted to see if we could do it withoutpaper macheing it In a nice way and we did This is a very strong helmet It comes out really good What you do is you cut youself a bunch ofone inch strips of cereal box cardboard Or something very similar to it like cardstock And then you just start at the top like here And add these little shapes like this Go one two three and four of them Right? Start at the top and put all four And this is how you do it You put it and you measure it And then you can cut it so it all fit correctly And glue those on And then do another layer And overlap these layers by a little bit likea quarter of an inch Or an eighth of an inch See now this is the next layer and you goall the way around with four of those See? see what we have there? Then continue it all the way down to the bottomof the helmet You don't have to go to the very bottom ofthe helmet You just have to get you know within an inchof the bottom But here you go i'll show you a little bitmore See were starting another layer Overlap it a little bit for strength Go all the way around with all of them And you don't have to do a perfect job here See this in this one i wanted to show youabout how far down we go And then masking tape put masking tape overthe whole helmet Cover it all up nice Now you have a pretty strong helmet here We didn't have the mess of paper mache And this is uh very durable So now cut yourself a two inch strip of uhcardboard like this And we're going to run that down the frontof the mask Start at the temple uh excuse me at the forehead Go all the way across the top to the backend of the mask And the helmet excuse me Trim it and then glue it down Now [clears throat] if you want to avoid thecorrugation marks You can cover that with duct tape like this Because duct tape has a nice pattern likethat It's a little flatter and nicer If you don't like the corrugation marks But you don't have to do this the duct tapeis optional So now we're gonna make a brim or kind oflike a lip all the way around the the helmet So fold yourself up some newspaper like this And you want it to be end up to be about aninch and a half to two inches wide like this See that? you have a strip like that And then you wrap it around the helmet brim With about a half inch overlap sticking outthe end Sticking beyond the helmet see it? And then you can pull that up and form a brim See it? it's like a rim of the helmet See? See that rim? Now go all the way around the whole helmetwith that We wanna make that rim stronger and bigger So what you do is you get a bunch of piecesof cardboard Like the cereal box cardboard like this And then glue them to the bottom like this And they're a little bit longer than the brim See we want a nice strong helmet here withno paper mache So do that all the way around on the insideof the of the rim And then do it again on the outside of therim See it? You do a layer of pieces of cereal box cardboardlike that All the way around the outside So what we have here is a very strong helmet Nice rim See it? like that Go all the way around with those Then you can trim them to make a nice shape And then you can tape over them And the hard part of your helmet is done I think See there you go nice nice very good That's it I like it Now do masking tape over all of them Both on the outside and on the inside So now in our template we have this piecehere There are two of them See that cardboard piece? We wanna add that now so cut out the template And trace two of those on cereal box cardboardor something very similar And see the slot down there? Make sure you cut trace and cut you're gonnacut that too And i'll show you why because we are goingto overlap that just a little bit So make two of these And this part here too That's an extension depending on the sizeof your helmet You should cut that rectangular piece outand tape it to the end Like this see how it's taped on the end onthe right there You can see it just in the distance And then glue that thing onto the helmet One on each side and see the slit now? Now we can overlap it and get it to fold well And there you go Look's good This adds some nice design to the helmet Do both the left and the right side And now were gonna tape it down there andup the top But don't tape this section in here Because we like that ummm that edge Now the sides of the helmet that come down Along the side of the neck and the ears Got that in the template Cut that out and make two of those If you don't like the seams in cereal boxyou can use something else Once you've got them made out of your cardboardor your cereal box cardboard Curve them just a little bit like this See so it has a nice curve from left to right And then those little like flames curve outa little bit Strengthen it up with some corrugated cardboard Put some pieces in there to keep it strengthened But don't distort the curve of it And you're gonna see the curve what i meanhere And then glue those in Tape them and glue them left and right You know take your time with this Put em in put a piece of tape look at it Move it around a little bit until you getit just right And then you can glue it in But let's take a look see That's what you got and that's what i meanby curves So now one remaining piece here Cut yourself a big piece of cereal box cardboardlike this And glue it into the back of the helmet And we're gonna take a look at this so yousee about what i mean See it's kind of like the back of the neck And you know it don't have to be too accuratethis You can kind of adjust it any way you want Even put the helmet on and make sure it'sok See just like that that's the back piece there There you go Now if you have mod podge go ahead and modpodge it This will seal it and strengthen it And help it take colors better too And mod podge the whole thing Let it dry Now we're gonna make the dragon spine thatgoes down the center of the helmet Cut out that part from the template Put that on cereal box cardboard And make yourself we used fourteen of them So make yourself fourteen of them Just so you may have to make more dependingon how you space them And here's an important thing Put a line right down the middle of it And then cut them out And then score that line down the middle witha sharp knife So you can cleanly bend it like this See now it's got a nice bend on it So now go ahead and make yourself fourteenof them Now the dragon's head with horns That's in the template cut that out Make yourself one on cardboard cereal boxcardboard And then we beef this out with pieces of newspaperand masking tape To make it a dragon shape There's three parts The dragon's head and each of the dragon'shorns So you know just tinker with this Until you get a feel for how the newspaperworks And the masking tape so you can tape it See it's looking good You really can't go wrong with this You just got to tinker with it You are sculpting the newspaper so it lookslike that Very nice And glue that to the front of the helmet rightlike that Gonna be a little alright so there we go So now let's glue on the dragon spine Start at the back of the helmet And glue one on with the point pointing downward Then glue another one on But it's important to start at the back ofthe helmet Just like this right up against that one And continue on just keep going All the way to the front See but doesn't that look good? look at that That's nice When you get them all done it's impressive And here's the last one We finally made it around to the front ofthe helmet There you go let's take a look The dragon's head the dragon's spine I like it a lot As usual mod podge oh and when If you don't have mod podge you can use whiteglue You can water down the white glue a littlebit so it's easy to brush on But don't water it down a lot So now let's add some details to the sidepanels of this helmet Draw lines like this on it Just follow this pattern You can pause the video if you need to Like that like that like this And then you go back up And then in the back too like right here i'llshow you Not on the back piece but in the back sideof it And a line like that There you go so now what to do is With your hot glue gun you know Make those into ridges Apply it nice and thick do multiple layersif you need be Just as like you're drawing lines with hotglue This is a nice detail you should do Do em all all those lines you drew And you can look at the picture of my helmet If you wannna get a sense for where thoselines are Now let's do some detail work to the dragon And hot glue is perfect for this The nostrils the eyes the ummm the bridgeof the nose See that's like the dragon's skin And for the horn's you do a long thick line Right down the center of the horns This is going to look good when painted And then you do the ridges Like that On this side and on the other side of thecenter line See it? doesn't that look good? Do both horns So now Let's paint it We're using a fifty fifty mix approximatelyof mod podge and black paint Mod podge gives it nice depth and thickness If you don't have any just go ahead and paintit So paint the whole thing black And one thing to be cautious of If you have any weak spots like our weak spotis in the back of the neck So what we did was painted everything elsefirst And saved that back section to paint blacklater Once everything was dried That way we didn't have to support it on thehelmet Let's put some rivets Four on each side of the helmet one two threefour See it? This side and the other side And you can do these before you paint it ifyou want So now once all of that is dry We can paint that back section of the helmet And if you want to avoid this You can do a double layer of something But now we can set it down and it will drywithout being distorted or crumpled And we set it down on the top of the helmet Painting A little bit of brown paint Spray paint if you have it Alright some silver paint A little bit of gold A little bit of black And maybe a touch up one final touch up withsilver And that's it You have made the dragon age inquisition helmet If you make this project send me a picture I will send you a certificate of contribution A little bit of details Umm You know paint some blood splatter on thefront of the helmet Maybe paint the dragon's eyes red See like i did there Looks good And it's very durable Thanks for watching that video I hope youenjoyed it If you're a subscriber thanks for subscribingto my channel If you're not a subscriber hit that button I always have lots of fun and interestingand very creative projects I do two new ones every week As an example here's a couple more videosyou might want to watch.
