How to make an Origami Charizard (Tadashi Mori) Part 1 折り紙 リザードン

Hey there everybody! I am Tadashi Mori and in this video here I'll show you how to make this origami Charizard.

It's my own design and it's a really complex origami.

So, you may need to have some experience with origami before doing this one.

And, well, you need a good paper to do it.

By good paper I mean, a thin, big and resistant paper.

For example, a Tissue Foil or a Thai Unryu paper with acrylic paint.

So, let's start! To make this origami we're using here one square sheet of paper.

The paper should have about 50 cm or 20 in.

This one here has only 26 cm just to make it easier to show the foldsin the beginning.

But, during the tutorial, I'll change for a bigger one.

Start by folding the paper in half, along the diagonal.

Now, we need to divide the bottom part in 3.

And, to do this, I'll use the approximation method.

So, I just guess here, where 1/3 should be.

Unfold, now fold to the other direction.

Just pinch here, don't fold too strongly.

Now, fold again, this point up to this point here.

Unfold and it seems that the first guess was really good.

But, let's fold again just to make it more precise.

I'll fold 4 more times.

so I can be sure that the error is really small.

Now, fold the paper making this point here go up to this point here.

And just pinch the middle, making a small mark.

And unfold the paper.

Now, fold the corner of the paper up to this first mark here.

And fold the paper completely.

Now, on the other side, you're going to do the same thing but, you're just going to pinch here thispart.

Now, unfold both sides.

During the process I'll draw the lines to make it easier for you to see the folds.

Now, fold this point here, up to this first line here, on the other side.

And fold the whole paper.

Unfold the model and you have this line here.

Now, fold up to the middle line.

Again, fold the whole paper.

And unfold.

Now, do the same thing here.

So, fold up to this first line here.

Unfold the paper and fold up to the middle line.

And unfold the paper again.

Now, fold this point here up to this first line here.

Now, unfold the paper and the model will look like this.

Now, you're going to fold here, the other side again.

Making this point go up to this line here.

But, again, we're not going to fold the whole paper we're just going to pinch here the other side of the paper.

Because we need this small mark here.

Now, you're going to fold here only one layer making this point go up to this pointhere.

Now, fold the paper completely unfold and you're going to fold from this point here up to this point here.

Unfold the paper again and the model will look like this.

Now, fold making this line here go up to this line here.

Now, you're going to fold making this line here go up to this line here.

Now, make here this valley fold again and fold this line up to this line here.

In short, we just divided the 2 parallel folds in 4 parts.

Now, turn the model over and do the same thing here.

So, again fold it downward, like this.

and we're going to divide the space between this 2 parallel folds in 4 parts.

So, the model will look like this.

Now, turn the model over and fold along this line here.

Now, fold this side of the paper up to this first line here.

Now, open this flap Squash the model aligning with the middle line.

You're going to pull the middle layer upward.

And press these sides of the flap, aligning with the middle line.

Now, unfold the paper.

Now, fold this side of the paper in this direction making this point go up to this point here.

Now, you're going to fold carefully, making this line here go up to this line here.

So, you just have to align these 2 lines.

And squash the model here, on the other side.

But, just this small portion here.

And the model will have these 3 lines here.

Now, unfold and you will have these lines.

Now, make a valley fold along this line here.

Now, fold making this point here align with this point and this line here.

And, again, we are going to open thisflap and fold the middle layer upward.

Open and squash this flap.

Now, pull the middle layer upward and fold these sides of the paper aligning with the middle line.

Fold it strongly and unfold the model.

And it's going to look like this.

Next, fold along this line here and you're going to make a fold making this line here go up to this line here.

Carefully, make this fold and press here folding it strongly.

Now, unfold the paper and this will be the result.

Now, fold here making again a valley fold along this line.

Now, make another valley fold.

along this line here but, only on this front layer.

Now, you'll make a valley fold along this line here, inside.

And at the same time, you'll fold this front layer aligning with this back layer here.

So, the model should look like this.

Now, fold here making this point go up to this point here.

Unfold.

Now, fold aligning this line with this line here.

Unfold again.

And fold making this point here go up to this point here.

And unfold the model Now, open the whole model and the folds will look like this.

Make a mountain fold along this line and a valley fold along this next line.

Now, on this side of the paper, make a fold making this point go up to this point here.

Unfold the model.

Pull this front layer and open here this part of the model.

So, we just made an inside reverse fold.

Now, fold this flap to the left and fold here making this line go up to this line.

Fold it strongly and unfold.

Now, do the same thing here, on the other side.

Now, unfold the whole model and it will look like this.

Now, fold along this line here and make another mountain fold along this line here.

So, the model will look like this.

Now, you're going to make a valley fold along this line.

We have this set of parallel lines and you're going to fold along the second line from the middle.

Now, make here a fold on the tip like this, aligning with this first parallel line.

And do the same thing here, on the bottom side.

And unfold the paper.

Now, make a valley fold here, along the third line from thecenter.

Like this, and again you're going to fold the tip making a small triangle up to the first parallel line.

And the model will look like this.

Now, do the same thing here, on the other side.

So, make a valley fold and fold the tip.

Unfold, fold the third line and, again, fold the tip.

And unfold the whole model again.

And, with this, we finished the precreases.

So, let's start folding.

We'll start by folding the parallel lines making here a valley fold, mountain fold, valley fold, mountain fold.

So, the model will look like this.

Do the same thing here, on the other side.

So, the model should look like this.

Now, fold everything in half, in this direction.

Make a valley fold here along this line.

Now, open this flap.

Like this.

And, as you can see, you're going to fold only the top part of this flap.

And then, you're going to squash this sides making a fold, just like in the tsuru base And be carefull with this pack of layers, so that it doesn't get trapped between the other folds.

Now, again, you're going to open here along this line.

Squash the top part and fold this layer upward, making a petal fold along the indicated lines.

So, the model will look like this.

Again, pull here, this layer, so it doesn't get trapped.

Now, you're going to make here a valley fold along this line and open this middle part.

And squash the top part.

Now, fold here making this line aligning with this middle line here.

And do the same thing here on the other side.

Now, fold here this side of this flap up to this line and do the same thing here, on the other side.

And unfold both sides.

Now, you're going to fold here this front layer from this point up to this point here.

And align these sides of this flap with the middle line.

Now, here you're going to pull this trapped layer from inside and align with the middle line, squashing here this side, like this.

Do the same thing on both sides.

And the model will look like this.

Now, carefully, fold this pack of layers to the right.

And fold the bottom flap upward but, be careful here.

So, that this part doesn't get trapped.

Now, you're going to make a fold So, the model will look like this.

Now, the next fold we need to fold really lightly, don't press it too strongly.

So, the fold should be here, in this place and don't press it too much.

Just leave it, like this.

Now, you're going to open here.

Again, don't press it.

Spreading the layers evenly.

Now, you're going to fold here, the inner part.

It's, actually, a little bit hard to see the folds.

But, you need to make here a petal fold using the inner lines.

It's going to be something like this.

You just have to make here a valley folds on the inner part making these sides of these layers align with the middle line.

You're just making here a petal fold, like in the tsuru base.

And the model will look like this.

Now, you're going to pull here this layer.

So, carefully, you're going to open the model a little bit and pull just one layer to outside, like this.

Making a valley fold along this line.

So, you're going to do the same thing here on the other side.

So, again carefully, open and pull the layer making a valley fold along this line.

So, the model will look like this.

So, before continue, pull here, this inner layers a little bit just to asure that it's not trapped So, let's continue.

From this point on, the origami is not going to lie flat for a while.

So, turn the model to this side and here, we're going to do the same thing.

We can see that there is a small bird base here and we are going to fold the same way wedid on the other side.

Just press here, the top part.

up to this point.

Squash here these sides of the paper, along this line.

Carefully, press like this.

Now you're going to open the front part, again and squash the top part, like this.

Now, you're going to make here a mountain fold along these 2 lines and, at the same time, you're going to make here a valley fold along this line here.

So, just squash here, these sides of the model and we just made here another bird base.

Now, carefully, you're going to press here the top and the bottom part of this flap.

Making a mountain fold along this small line here.

And, at the same time, you're going to make a mountain fold along the lines inside.

So, a mountain fold along this and this line.

Now, do the same thing here, on the other side.

So, again, you're going to press here squashing the top and the bottom part of this flap.

Making a mountain fold along this small line.

And making the 2 inner mountain folds at the same time.

So, the model is going to look like this.

Now, just press here, the middle.

And the base is almost done.

Now, open here, this front flap and squash the top part, but only up to the first line.

It's going to look like this.

Now, you're going to make here a valley fold along this first line.

And, at the same time, you're going to press these sides of the paper making the model look like this.

Now open here, the front flap, again and squash the top part, only up to the first line.

Then, make here again, a valley fold pressing here, these sides of the flap.

Now, open here, the front flap, one moretime and the model will look like this.

Now, fold here this front flap upward, like this.

Now, pull here this inner layer and fold it upward.

Let me zoom in here, a little bit, before.

So, you're going to pull this inner layer and fold it upward, like this.

And, carefully, you're going to fold here, along this line.

Let me show you again.

Just pull here, this front layer making a fold here and here.

Now, make a valley fold along this line.

Now, press the inner part of this flap here, making now, a mountain fold along the next line here.

So, the model will look like this.

Now, just pull here, this trapped layer to outside, like this.

And you're going to do the same thing here, on the other side.

So,pull the inner layer fold here, this side of this layer.

Make here a valley fold and a mountain fold.

Now, pull the trapped layer and that's it.

Now, I'll zoom out the video, again.

At this point, the model should look like this.

Now, hold the model like this and you're going to make a fold here along this inner line making a valley fold along this and this line.

Before we do that, fold here, these 2 small flaps to this direction.

Now, we are ready.

We are going to fold here open the model a little bit and fold here, this and this line making a valley fold.

And you're going to make a mountain fold along this next line here.

So, you're going to make both folds at the same time.

It's going to be a little bit difficult.

So, you have to open the model a little bit.

So, you can make these 2 valley folds.

like this.

And make here the mountain fold, along the next line.

So, the model will look like this.

Now, make a valley fold along this line.

and another fold along the next line.

So, you're going to reverse fold this layer.

Now, you're going to fold here this flap along this line here.

So, we just made an inside reverse fold along this line and the model will look like this.

Now, do the same thing here, on the other side.

So, again we are going to open the model a little bit.

Make here, these 2 valley folds outside reversing this flap.

Another valley fold along the next line.

Now, reverse fold along this line and make an inside reverse fold on this flap, like this.

The next step will be to fold the legs.

These flaps are the legs.

And you're going to spread the layers.

So, you have to hold here this pack of layers, like this.

And you're going to hold here, the inner part, at the same time and pull these layers to this direction unfolding the parallel lines.

It's a little bit hard to see which layers you have to hold but, in short, you have to unfold the parallel lines and nothing more.

So, the model will look like this.

Now, you have to press here the top part of this triangle and fold the parallel folds back.

And do the same thing here on the nextlayer.

So, the model will look like this.

Now, do the same thing here on the other side.

So, open the model a little bit.

Pull this layers unfolding the parallel lines.

Now, press here, the top part, of this triangle while folding the parallel lines back and do the same thing on the next layer.

So, the model will look like this.

Now, you're going to do the same thing on the other side, here, on the legs.

To make it easier you can just fold the whole model to this direction, like this.

And do the same thing here.

So, you're just going to pull here, the parallel lines.

Spreading the layers.

Fold here, the top part of the triangle.

And fold the parallel lines back.

So, I just do the same thing here on the other side.

And that's it.

The base is done.

Now, the paper is starting to get too small, so I will change it for a bigger one, so we can work on the details.
